Melbourne

Friday November 5th

Just a short flight to Melbourne and no time difference. We arrived to see blue skies, but were reliably informed that the good weather is only expected to last two days, so by the time we hit the Ocean Road we’re due to have thunderstorms!

We’re staying in a lovely hotel – no view this time, but we have got a suite, and if we chose to watch them, two TVs!

We explored a small part of Melbourne this afternoon, walking down to Flinders Street station, then getting a tram to Treasury Gardens.

The park is lovely and we found a conservatory that is even bigger than Andy Fretter’s!!

From there we walked to Fitzroy Gardens to see Captain Cook’s cottage. This is the actual cottage he grew up in Yorkshire and it was taken down, brought to Melbourne and rebuilt in this pretty setting. It has a wonderful cottage garden, and we even saw a genuine British blackbird.

Tomorrow is Philip Island and the penguins.
